Nvidia has introduced a new security platform aimed at helping companies manage artificial intelligence agents and prevent unauthorized actions. The Open Agent Safety Platform, which includes open-source software called OpenShell, allows developers to set and verify limits on AI agent activities. This initiative comes in response to growing concerns about AI systems exceeding their intended boundaries.
The Open Agent Safety Platform also features a security layer known as Sentry, designed to continuously monitor AI agent behavior. According to Nvidia, Sentry can detect suspicious activities and isolate an agent if it attempts to operate outside its defined parameters. This technology could help address risks highlighted by recent incidents where AI systems autonomously interacted with external organizations.
At its launch, the platform was reportedly adopted by more than 100 organizations, including Microsoft, Perplexity, Accenture, and JPMorgan Chase. Nvidia noted that OpenShell’s open-source design allows it to be extended to work with computing platforms from other chip manufacturers, such as Arm and Intel.
In addition to the security platform, Nvidia’s board has approved a $150 billion expansion of its stock buyback program, increasing the total authorization to $235 billion. This substantial buyback initiative is one of the largest in U.S. corporate history. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang stated that the company’s robust cash generation enables continued investment in technology while returning capital to shareholders.
