In a collaborative effort to bolster food security in Yemen, Saudi Arabia’s aid agency KSrelief and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office have pledged a combined $10 million to fund a critical project targeting vulnerable communities. The initiative, which seeks to enhance long-term resilience, will be executed by the UN World Food Programme across the governorates of Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Aden, Al-Dhale, and Lahij.
Each partner, KSrelief and the UK, is contributing $5 million to this endeavor. The project focuses on providing conditional cash transfers to improve access to food for those in need, aiming to restore productive infrastructure and assist families in moving from emergency food assistance towards greater self-reliance.
Beyond immediate food aid, the initiative also emphasizes vocational training and support for local authorities, incorporating measures designed to enhance governance and the sustainable management of community resources. These efforts are crafted to not only address the current crisis but also to lay the groundwork for more sustainable development in the affected regions.
This agreement is part of Saudi Arabia’s extensive humanitarian outreach through KSrelief, which has been a pivotal force in global aid since 2015. The agency has successfully implemented over 4,400 aid projects, with a collective value exceeding $8.5 billion, across 113 countries, showcasing its commitment to alleviating human suffering and fostering development worldwide.
